InspiratonFor the piece "Nopal" I was inspired by Frida Kahlo's artworks titled "The Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth (Mexico), Myself, Diego, and Señor Xolotl" and "Self-Portrait with Bonito". After I had established a message that I wanted to covey to the viewers first artwork helped inspire symbols such as the cacti and the hands. The second artwork inspired the color scheme used in my piece. Cool and Warm hues such as Green, Blue, Yellow and Red

Planning Sketches
Experimentation
- Once I had sketched and had an idea of what I wanted to paint I started off by taking pictures of my hands as model/ reference for the hands that I was going to draw on the canvas. The experimentation images also helped me decide what position and angle the hands will be drawn and painted eventually.

Meaning
The meaning of the painting "Nopal" directly derives from a Spanish expression that goes "Tienes el nopal en la frente" which translates in English to "You have the Cactus on your forehead. In this saying the cactus represents mexico and it's culture as a whole. Commonly this saying is used towards Mexican people who pretend to not be Mexican. In my opinion, culture is something that one should be proud of and not ashamed about at all so that's why the piece "Nopal" displays more so loving and having pride in one's place of origin, including traditions. For this painting the main symbols in this piece are the cacti, flowers, and hands. Since cacti are a plant that is common in mexico it represents the country, the flowers represent the beauty of the country and t's culture, and he hands represent embracing.
