MIAD Flag
Title: "Ronald Reagan Flag"
Size: 9 in x 12 in Medium: Prisma Colored Pencils April 2019 Exhibition TextThe final flag design for the Ronald Reagan Flag was inspired by the logos of the three main sections that make up RRHS which are Reagan, IB, and MPS. By using color, line, and figure the important meaning of "Reagan leading to the path towards college" is delivered.

Inspiration
My inspirations were the logos of the three main parts that define Reagan. Since all of the images above have hues in common I focused on proimarily using Blue, Yellow, and White.
Aspects used to create the final design were...
- Colors
- "the three logos" (IB, MPS & Reagan)
- Lines
- Meaning

Process
1- Before I started drawing the flag designs I already had brainstrormed of what parts of Reagn, IB, and MPS where going to influence that designs.
|
2- After knowing what details of the inspirations I was going to incorporate in each design I started to think about the meanings of the colors in the three logos.
|
3- Once all of the designs were drawn I colored them in various ways based on the shapes that are shown and the meaning of each aspect of the flag.
5- After the final design had been chosen out of two I began marking the measurements for the line that goes diagonal.
7- After marking the inches I made a paw print stencil and measured how long it was. Since the paw print was 4 inches long I made sure that they were evenly spaced and not just placed randomly.
9- The final step was to glue the final flag design on to the already cut foam board by using spray adhesive.
|
4- Out of the 15 designs I made two were chosen as the final designs and out of those two the final one would be selected.
6- Once I was done measuring and tracing to make a straight diagonal line I marked every inch.
8- After tracing the stencils, I placed scotch blue tape right on the side lines so that the white sides wouldn't get colored accidentally. Once I was done coloring the blue I did the same and put tape on the blue in order to not mix the yellow with the blue.
10- To put glue on the design image I had to change the paper from inside the booth and then turn int on so that it sucks up the strong glue spray smell.
|
11- Once I had completed step 10 I was able to spray the glue, let it get a bit sticky and place it on to the 1.5 inch marks so that it could be centered on the foam board.
Critique
Compare and Contrast
The final design was influenced by three images, the logos of IB, MPS, and Ronald Reagan High school. One thing that they all have in common is the blue hue. The color blue is known to be not only a popular color but also hold the meaning of Wisdom, confidence and intelligence and that can be correlated to the academic aspect of the images. Another similarity between the three is the use of line to show emphasis in certain parts of the logo designs. An obvious contrast between the three is that image is a flag and the other three logos are not. Another difference are the figures and meaning within the design.
Reflection
Overall I was very pleased with how the flag turned out. One obstacle that I had to overcome first was deciding what flag design to choose but then I thought about which one had more aspects that were meaningful. Another difficulty that I had was when making the final design. The process of coloring can be pretty hard since the color can transfer or get out of line on to lighter colored areas but I tried to avoid that by placing scotch blue tape on the sides to keep the image clean.
